It all started five years ago when Dutch-Guatemalan couple, Zita & Mayko, moved in together. Zita moved to Antigua to work for a local nonprofit and Mayko followed shortly after!

We both fell in love with the city's charm, the friendly people, and the delicious food. But most of all, we immediately became obsessed over the incredible artisan goods and handicraft techniques Guatemalans have preserved over many generations.

We knew from day one we wanted to share our love for the country and its traditions with the rest of the world - in an eco-friendly, fair and sustainable way. So here we are, doing just that!

Our Production

Cielo Azul Home Decor offers high-quality home goods sustainably and ethically made in Guatemala. Our rugs feature modern designs with traditional roots that fit into every household.

Sustainable Practices

Our goal is to make your home cozier while giving you the satisfaction of knowing that the products you purchase are eco-friendly and ethically sourced. We guarantee our products help maintain Guatemala's traditional footloom technique by paying a fair wage to all our workers.

Transparency

And since shipping internationally is not a sustainable practice, we plant a tree on an eco farm in Guatemala’s rainforest for every product we sell.

Our Artisan Partners

We work with a team of artisan partners in the highlands of Momostenango, Guatemala. Most of our artisan partners learned this craft alongside their parents growing up, and are very handy behind the footloom.

Our artisan partners can take up to 2 weeks to create our modern rugs. During the rainy season (May to November), this process can take even longer since the sheep wool needs to be completely dry before going on the footloom.

Made in Guatemala

A few months ago, we went to visit one of our artisan partners, José, in his home and he was able to teach us everything that goes into making our eco-friendly rugs.

We’re so impressed with the work of our artisan and can’t wait to continue partnering with these talented individuals and their families.
